Extras: Prejudiced Poetry
May 2018
A new element in my blog – poetry! Here are three literary pieces that are closely related to this month’s blog.

Clouding Images
‘The world changes when we change our perspective’
Brutally he is killed by the daughter of his murder’s victim.
They see it as brutality.
Others see it as crime.
But she feels that it is deserved revenge.
He picks up a toy from the stall.
They see it as stealing.
Others see it as the behaviour of the poor.
But he only wishes to buy someday.
An African child stares at food.
They see it as poverty.
Others see it as starvation.
But she just has a slight hunger for routine lunch.
A child clothed in grime picks up a book.
They see it as dirtiness.
Others see it as spoiling the book.
But he wishes to see the colours of the words inside.
No one can change the images that cloud our mind. Perspective.

Compared
‘Comparison is the thief of joy’ – a poem on the effects of comparison
In the forest
Full of skilled hunters
Full of swift hunters
I have a limp.
In the hills
Full of tall mountains
Full of rising birds
I am the steep valleys.
In the lands
Full of green grass
Full of flowers
I am a rotten fruit.
In the beauty of the day
Full of sunshine
Full of blue
I am the day-spoiling rain.
In the Earth
Full of sparkles
Full of brightness
I hide in the darkness.
In the emotions
Full of excitement
Full of joy
I am sad.
In the people
Full of the confident
Full of the proud
I am insecure.
Who am I?
I don’t know.

Who's to blame?
‘You can learn a lot from mistakes when you aren’t busy in denial’ – a poem on the blame game
Someone told me I was ugly
Someone told me I was too pretty
Someone told me I was too tall
Someone told me I was too lean
Someone said I dress well
Someone said that I was dumb
Someone said that my makeup is on fleek
Someone said that I was too talkative
We say society groups us into self-esteem lowering labels
But aren’t we in the society too?
